The genesis of this album was the joint tour of Caitlin Jemma And The Goodness and the Joseph Hein Band in the late summer of 2018. Ben Walden and drummer David Ward played in both bands for this tour. Things went somewhat cattywampus, causing David and Ben to perform the last show of tour as a guitar-drums duo at the Canvas Cafe in Virginia City, Nevada. David had the idea to record this very unusual set of underrehearsed material on cell phones and then release it as an album. The two musicians thought their troubles were over after the final gig but subsequently wound up getting stranded in the desert on their way home to Idaho.
Some choice cuts from the Canvas Cafe gig were augmented by other unreleased material. The song "Lanny" is written and sung by banjo maestro Sam Schumacher. "Lanny," along with "Gallons 0f Coffee," were part of an unfinished project from 2016 that contained mostly Schumacher's originals, recorded under the working title "Samdelic Bluegrass." The song "Devil's Advocate" was performed by Walden's band @tlas before being quickly scrapped from the set list. It appears here as a brief textural excerpt, produced by @tlas drummer Machado Mijiga.
